At amstermam we work in small teams and we consciously have fewer pregnant women under care. With our Centering Pregnancy care, we continue where standard pregnancy care stops. And we are proud of that! Because thanks to this working method, we can offer our clients more knowledge, attention and time.

Small teams of 3 midwives

We think a personal approach is important. That is why we work in small teams of 3 midwives: team West and team East. If you attend the Centering Pregnancy program, we offer you a familiar face during these sessions. These are supervised by a permanent midwife and co-supervisor. In the last period of your pregnancy you will meet a second midwife who you will see weekly. So you got to know two of the three midwives in your team around the time of your delivery.*

If you opt for regular pregnancy care, we aim for you to see the same midwife in the first 30 weeks. Then you meet her colleagues from her team*.

In her first years as an independent midwife, Esma developed a strong vision about how best to care for pregnant women. She used this vision in 2011 to set up Geboorte in Praktijk full of energy (since ’21 amstermam). She can make optimal use of her strong and sparkling personality. She is constantly aware of the fact that everyone experiences pregnancy, childbirth and parenting differently.

“I have been able to supervise many pregnancies and deliveries. Every time it is, even for me, a miracle how such a little person is born. This miracle never gets used.”

No day is the same, intensive contact with people, a medical profession; it seemed something to Ryanne. For example, after her studies in Nutrition & Health, she came to Amsterdam to study obstetrics. She experiences the small-scale approach of amstermam as a great enrichment of her profession.

After a large group practice, Rianne opted for a smaller-scale approach in 2012. She experiences that she has come (even) closer to the pregnant women and their partners: an enrichment of her profession.

In 2009, Rianne used her acquired knowledge of nutrition and obstetrics in Cameroon. She worked there in a hospital with pregnant women and children of HIV-positive mothers. In her spare time, Rianne enjoys sports, making clothes and being outside a lot.

In the friends-books at primary school it was already recorded: Veerle became a midwife. And she still knows for sure: she has the best profession in the world!

Leisure: romantic lifestyle, creative excesses, loves that good market stall to put a nice meal on the table in the evening for a house full.

From the age of about 10, Marike and her mother watched "the midwifery practice" on television. It was immediately clear: she wanted to become a midwife. At amstermam she finds the team spirit with the other midwives and the time and attention for pregnant women that she found nowhere else.

After an 8-year adventure in Australia as a paraveterinary, Hansje returned to the Netherlands in 2014 to make her obstetrics dream come true. Hansje believes it is important to give the pregnant woman and her partner the time and attention they need to enjoy the pregnancy and look forward to the delivery. amstermam gives this space and time.

“In my opinion, being a midwife is the most beautiful profession there is. A birth gives me goosebumps every time”.

Because midwives go on holiday too, have a training day or are on (maternity) leave, the team sometimes changes. Below you will find our permanent substitutes.

Elin is onze vaste invaller. Je kunt haar zien in oost, west & centrum en bij Centering Pregnancy sessies. Natuurlijk kun je haar ook tegenkomen als ze dienst heeft voor team oost of team west.

From the tough business world, Niken made a very conscious choice in 2018 to make the transition to healthcare at amstermam. The interpersonal contact in a special period of a family's life gives her energy. You can hear and feel that when you have her on the phone or walk into the practice.

Leisure time: baking & cooking. Much to the delight of her 3 children and husband.

In 2019, Jolien was introduced to the practice when she was pregnant. She felt a warm welcome and was impressed by the time, attention, involvement and knowledge of the team. A wonderful birth experience, she decided to put her job as an art director & food stylist aside to become part of this powerful team of women.
